Christine von Weizsäcker has worked in the field of technology assessment since the mid-Seventies. She focused on technology assessment with involvement of civil society. She also participates in the UN-negotiations of the Rio Process and the Convention on Biological Diversity since 1992.

Issues she addressed in many scientific papers and public media were, e.g., the assessment and regulation of nuclear energy and genetic engineering.

At the interational level she closely follows the negotiations of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Protocols, the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, including its Supplementary Protol on Liability and Redress, and the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing in the context of genetic resources. She also had been appointed by the Major Group Women as their expert for participation in the internal negotiations preparing for Rio+20 and was invited by women’s organisation around the globe to give advice on the follow-up, i.e. the development of the Sustainable Development Goals.

She is part of the study group “Erdgestaltung” of the Federation of German Scientists (Vereinigung Deutscher Wissenschaftler, VDW) which endeavours to better link the findings and policies on climate change and biodiversity.
