Research at the UM is carried out in multidisciplinary teams and in close cooperation with institutes and organisations all over the world.

The Faculty of Law is of the six faculties in the UM. The research focus is on comparative studies and on European law, international economic law and human rights. In line with its commitment to high-quality legal research and scholarship, and in order to facilitate both internationally leading academics and young scholars in pursuing high quality academic work the faculty houses a number of research institutes and centres, and participates in the inter-university research school Ius Commune and Netherlands School of Human Rights Research. The total amount of projects in Horizon 2020 (from 2014-2017) that the UM either coordinated or participated in is about 105 projects with approximately 50 million euro of funding volume. In order to create the right interdisciplinary setting for dealing with the questions the Faculty of Law will collaborate with the Faculty of Arts and Social Science for this project.

Maastricht university is, as the project coordinator, responsible for the coordination of the project in workpackage 6. Furthermore, UM is actively involved in WP 1, 2, 3 and 4.
